Things that make me, ME – Part 1

I find that the best part of meeting new people and deepening friendships with others is learning more about who they really are, talking about those things that make them who they are.  Sometimes it is the most seemingly random things that draw us closer, show us how we are similar or show us how we are different….both of which are important!

So, here are 10 random things about me that I would like to share as we get to know each other.

  1. Canada Hockey Jersey – I am proudly Canadian. I am a lover of hockey. I was fortunate enough to be able to take my kids to Vancouver in February 2010 for the Olympics.  I bought matching jerseys for the kids and I to wear and wear them we did.  Of course, they have long grown out of theirs (but I still have them in a bin in my closet) but I have not grown out of mine (thank the lord).  It has traveled with me, other friends have worn it….it has memories of its own and it will be that one article of clothing I know will stay with me for my whole life.

  2. 2016 Sahara Jeep Wrangler – all my life I have wanted a Jeep.  It took me until December 2015 to be able to get one.  I was almost 44 ½ years old and when I drove that Jeep off the showroom floor, I’m sure the smile on my face could not have been any bigger. This was a HUGE financial accomplishment for me….that story is yet to come.

  3. Pandora Bracelets – I don’t wear a lot of jewelry.  I like it, I just don’t wear it because being in the pool so much makes it difficult. These bracelets though are special.  One has charms that represent my 3 children.  One has charms for each trip I have taken to Cabo San Lucas.  One has charms bought for me by families in my swim program or from my kids and other special people in my life.  I love to run my fingers around the beads and remember the memory and the people attached to it. They may not be worn often but they are cherished.

  4. Puzzles & Books, Journals and Markers – These are some of my favorite things and they come in many forms and in multiples in my home.  Most of my childhood was spent without a TV being in our house so I did A LOT of reading.  One of my grandma’s favorite past times was doing puzzles, something that we spent a lot of time doing together and created so many memories for me, that as an adult, I treasure deeply.  And writing….having a place to jot down thoughts and feelings (in pretty colors of course) was an outlet for me.

  5. Current pictures of my kids – I have always loved pictures.  Taking them. Having them printed. Sorting through them. Having an iPhone makes this process so much easier but over the years, I have tried to get family pictures done once a year.  This way I have my kids just one swipe away.  This has become even more important as they have grown up and they are so very close to moving away and I won’t be able to lay my eyes on them every day. Cue ALL the emotions.

  6. A beach hat, with a matching swim suit and my FAVORITE sunglasses – This would be my every day wear if it was practical.  One day.  That is my dream.

  7. Coffee and the thing that makes it – I have had a single cup Keurig for 8 years and before that, I had a Starbucks card.  I still have the Starbucks card, although it gets used far less than before….but this Christmas I got a Keurig upgrade.  Now I have choices and I have NO idea why I didn’t have one of these miraculous machines in my home a long time ago.

  8. Coffee mugs & Wine glasses – So, I have a collection of both of these things but since these ones matched, I thought I would share them.  Coffee in the morning, every morning and wine at night, a couple times a week (except when on vacation).

  9. Ugg boots & Flip flops – These are my 2 extremes for footwear….there isn’t much space in between them for anything else now.  People will tell you that I love heels. I still own many, but honestly, I am now in love with the IDEA of heels.  My old feet and out of shape calves hurt even if I just look at a pair.

  10. Essential Oils – Balance, Peace & Breathe – Things I need in my life every day. I’m not super knowledgeable on oils (but I know a person who is) but I am learning and these 3 oils remind me to seek balance, pursue peace and always remember to breathe. EVERY.DAY.

There you have it. Part 1 😊 Now, what can you share with me?? Please tell me something random but important to you. This is the first step to a wonderful friendship. I can feel it already.
